Forestry and Agriculture

Approximately one-third to one-half of the 2 billion tons of agricultural and forestry residues are not used and are either disposed of by burning them in the open fields.

• Examples of agricultural and forestry residue include waste branches and bush, wood bi-products, rice husks, coffee husks/pulp, coconut (copra) shells, paddy straw, sugarcane leaves and stalks, wheat and other grain crop residues, peat, straw, animal litter, corn cobs, sewage sludge cake, and industrial sludge cake.

• Rapid industrialization throughout the world has resulted in an ever-increasing demand for process fossil fuels, heat, steam and electricity.

• Fluid bed gasification systems are being used worldwide to consume waste products and providing energy which can be used in numerous applications.

• Cooling. Waste is fed into the gasifier. Steam is generated. Steam is fed into an absorption chiller. Heat is converted into cold air. Cold air is used for cold rooms, supermarkets or other storage locations.

• In the coffee industry, several models are used to dry coffee beans.

• In forestry, energy created through gasification of wood wastes, reduces or eliminates the need for fossil fuels to heat the kilns used for drying lumber.

• The gas and heat produced from the gasification units can also be used to produce electricity.

• The gas produced can be processed to produce methane for resale.
